Life-Saving Documentary on Suicide Prevention Coming to Pittsburgh

NAMI Keystone Pennsylvania to Host Sold-Out Screening at The Waterfront

Pittsburgh - More than 42,000 Americans die by suicide each year, according to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. That’s 117 people every day. On Thursday, March 22, 2018, at 7:30 p.m. NAMI Keystone Pennsylvania will present a special screening of the documentary, Suicide: The Ripple Effect at the AMC Loews Waterfront Theater located at 300 W. Waterfront Dr., West Homestead, PA 15120.

The film chronicles the story of Kevin Hines, who at age 19 attempted to take his life by jumping from the Golden Gate Bridge. Since then, Kevin has been on a mission to use his story to help others find recovery and stay alive.

“Suicide is the second leading cause of death in the U.S. for individuals between the ages of 15–24,” said Christine Michaels, CEO of NAMI Keystone Pennsylvania. “We wanted to bring this documentary to Pittsburgh hoping it can inspire others to seek help.”

The film also features some of the world’s leading suicide prevention experts and shines a light on people who are using personal experiences with suicide to help others find the hope they need to stay alive.

Following the screening, we will have an important Q&A session featuring some of the area's leading suicide prevention advocates including:

-Jennifer Sikora, Associate Area Director, American Foundation for Suicide Prevention - Western PA Chapter

Sansea L. Jacobson, MD, Program Director, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship, University of Pittsburgh; Psychiatrist for the STAR-Center, Services for Teens at Risk

-Nicole Campbell, Peer Engagement and Education Specialist, NAMI Keystone Pennsylvania
