MONROEVILLE, Pa. – On Sunday, Oct. 2, 2022, hundreds of people will gather at Monroeville Community Park West for NAMIWalks Keystone PA, an annual 5K walk that raises awareness of mental health and spreads the word that treatment works and recovery is possible. The event is hosted by NAMI Keystone Pennsylvania and it's the first in-person NAMIWalks since 2019. "When the pandemic hit, our NAMIWalks event went virtual," said Christine Michaels, CEO of NAMI Keystone Pennsylvania. "It was the right thing to do back then, but we couldn't be more excited to be back in person. There is nothing more inspiring than hundreds of people coming together for the same cause." This is the 16th year for NAMIWalks. The family-friendly event features food trucks, a DJ, face painting, and balloon artists. NAMIWalks is the organization's largest awareness and fundraising event of the year. "We were very fortunate that so many of our dedicated teams, supporters, and sponsors stuck with us when we were virtual," said Michaels. "But we are all looking forward to celebrating together again." NAMIWalks donations fund the support groups and educational programs that NAMI Keystone Pennsylvania offers throughout the year at no cost to those who participate. "The demand for mental health support and education has never been greater," said Michaels. "The pandemic exacerbated the mental health crisis, especially with our young people, and the funds raised will help our organization meet a very critical need."
