Mental Health Leaders, Advocates Convene at NAMI Keystone Pennsylvania’s Annual Children’s Conference
Pittsburgh - On Friday, June 8, 2018, NAMI Keystone Pennsylvania is holding its annual Child and Adolescent Mental Health Conference at the Pittsburgh Airport Marriott Hotel, 777 Aten Road, Coraopolis, PA 15108.
The event features Ross W. Greene, PhD, a clinical psychologist and professor who believes that adults and children must work together to reduce challenging behaviors. Dr. Greene is also a New York Times bestselling author of the books, The Explosive Child, Lost at School, Lost and Found, and Raising Human Beings.
“This conference is about bringing families, caretakers, educators, and professionals together so we can talk about how collaboration, in all aspects, can benefit young people at their most vulnerable moments,” said Christine Michaels, CEO of NAMI Keystone Pennsylvania.
Another highlight of the conference will be the presentation of the Dick Jevon Advocacy Award to Julius Boatwright, founder and CEO of Steel Smiling, a nonprofit that connects people in the community with mental health resources. The award recognizes the success Mr. Boatwright and his organization have had in helping to eliminate barriers that prevent people from actively seeking and receiving adequate mental and behavioral health care.
“Steel Smiling and NAMI Keystone Pennsylvania have a lot in common,” said Michaels. Both organizations work to eliminate the stigma and barriers that get in the way of people accessing mental health services. We commend the work he is doing in the community and he is very deserving of this recognition.”
Julius Boatwright is also presenting a workshop at the conference titled, Our Stories Matter: A New Approach to Mental Health Engagement, which focuses on the informal methods of engagement that help to facilitate and strengthen relationships between community members and the mental health support system.
